Greatest SH&E Challenge

Share your thoughts on the greatest challenge facing the SH&E profession in the 21st century essay contest. Submit an original 1,000- to 2,000-word persuasive essay that outlines a specific challenge and highlights possible solutions/strategies for addressing it. Entries must be written by a single individual. The top entry will receive $1,500 and the winning essay will be announced April 1, 2011.

Judging

Originality (40%): An outstanding entry will identify the challenge and provide persuasive evidence to support the writer's opinion that it is the greatest challenge facing the profession. Message (60%): The panel will consider the author's ability to clearly convey his/her opinion, the strength of the argument presented, and the effectiveness of the writing style in carrying the message forward.

Purpose of the Essay

Through these essays, ASSE is seeking to identify what its members believe to be the greatest challenges facing the SH&E profession, as well as ideas on potential solutions/strategies that might be implemented to address those challenges. The essays should provoke thought and debate within the profession.

Grand Prize

One entry, selected by a panel of five ASSE judges, wins $1,500. The grand-prize-winning essay will be published in an ASSE publication and will be highlighted at the Society's annual conference and on the ASSE website. The top 10 ranked entries will be compiled into a single publication for distribution (electronically) to ASSE members and interested parties.

To submit your essay, November 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011, simply fill in the details below and upload your file. Preferred format is Word or a similar word processing program.
